Abstract:
“The Witch in the Garden” is a story about a man by the name of Vlad who exists simultaneously in the real / physical world and in the spiritual world. He has encounters with spirits: Angels, Demons, those that are suffering from illnesses and those who have passed away. Visions of his life come forth in various “dreams” through out his days and nights as he tries to live a good Christian life. During his quest for peace from these visions, Vlad begins the long and difficult road of reconciling with older brother, Rudal, and Katlin, Rudal’s wife… and Vlad’s ex. The story of “The Witch in the Garden” original began as a comic book idea in the early part of the new millennium. After being putting it down and allowing it to collect dust for almost five years, author and creator of “The Witch in the Garden”, decided to revisit the story and turn it into a novel. *

From the back cover: "Here are ten real-life stories by young adult Catholics trying to discover how to carry out their faith in their daily lives. You may not agree with everything they think, say, or do, but you will admire and be challenged by their passion, dedication, courage, and love for God and others." The authors focus on how their faith challenges them to seek justice in both church and society, on both macro and micro levels. Book sprang out of a blog hosted by the Chicago-based organization Call To Action.

Abstract:
From the back cover: "Over the decades, Catholics in Chicago have earned a reputation for 'prayerful heterodoxy.' That means they pray deeply about their faith and feel empowered and compelled to say what they believe, while respecting and celebrating the unity and diversity that both defines and challenges them. In this slim volume of stories, essays, poems, and passionate personal pleas, more than thirty Chicago Catholics reveal their hopes for the church they love--sometimes ardently, sometimes painfully, but always faithfully....Taken together, their experiences paint a portrait of the Catholicism being lived at this moment in this unique American city." The concept behind the book, written on the eve of Francis Cardinal George's retirement, was to take "snapshots" of the local church for the benefit of the next archbishop (and whoever else might be interested).
