Abstract:
Hans Hofman/Exuberant Eye examines the artistic production and experimentation of Hans Hofmann (1880-1966). Presenting oil paintings and works on paper, this show considers Hofmann's career from the late 1930s to the mid-1960s, decades during which he explored various themes and styles. Hofmann's towering presence in twentieth-century art rises from two foundations of accomplishment and influence-his art and his teaching. His role in shaping American art was profound, and the works in Hans Hofmann/Exuberant Eye are a testament to the artist's brilliance, originality, adventurous spirit, and continued relevance and importance to the twientieth century.
