The book was published by the Great Books Foundation, "an independent, nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to help people learn how to think and share ideas."

Poetry East is an international magazine of poetry, translations, criticism, interviews, and art. Poetry East is an independent magazine affiliated with DePaul University, whose support is gratefully acknowledged. The theme of Number 61 is poets writing verse about photographs from their pasts, included alongside the poems.
