Chicago River

Mission Statement: Echo Magazine satisfies our desire to uncover and share secrets through intriguing stories and engaging visuals. Just as the name implies, Echo is a reverberation of stories waiting to be heard.

From inside front cover: "Chicago's largest work of public art to date, Riverwalk Gateway by Ellen Lanyon tells the history of Chicago and its river. The magnificent 336-foot long wall installation consists of sixteen narrative panels and twelve decorative panels." Book presents pictures of each panel, which together tell the story of Chicago from the explorers Marquette and Jolliet to the year 2000. The panels focus on important sites along the river and Lake Michigan and use architecture as a metaphor for the spirit of Chicago.

An anthology of Chicago's Maritime history, complete with vagabonds, romance, commerce, lighthouses and shipwrecks. Starting in 1673 when voyageur Louis Jolliet first realized the potential utility of the place that was to become Chicago and through the ensuing centuries, learn about this lively world of waterway history through a collection of writings, photos and artifacts.
