A documentation of the Contemporary Arts Council's (of Evanston, IL) 15th annual exhibition of new and emerging Chicago based artists. Presents artwork exploring the relationships of figure and ground, literally and metaphorically. Artwork presented shares a well defined graph of distances between subjects and objects which always portray a place, person, or idea which exists as a spatial and temporal background to the foregrounded object of art.

A comprehensive documentation of all works given to the Art Institute of Chicago by the Society for Contemporary Art, one of the Institute's subsidiary divisions, on the sixtieth anniversary of the same. List of artist contributors is partial.

"There are forty-three heroes in this book...Since I saw these monumental figures as icons...I decided on a size and shape for the hand that would depict them." The personalities and accomplishments of 43 iconic heroes are represented by Kiff Slemmons' jewelry-like pins shaped like hands. Each work stands as an allegory representing the qualities, virtues, and significance of each hero to Slemmons. Included is a biographic essay and poem that serve to give greater scope to the work; a largely pictorial work.
