After Hours says on the cover that it is a journal of Chicago writing and art. It is published twice a year and is composed of poetry, prose and photography.

"Paper & Carriage is an arts and literature quarterly defining a new slow media approach to arts and literary consumption." This issue is largely dedicated to the art of Henry Darger, including excerpts from his writing.

"The core of this volume is a multidisciplinary retrospective on the state of Black Literature and Black people in the post-Katrina era. Hurricane Katrina is not just an (un)natural disaster, but a Holocaust, a reckoning, a metaphor for the Black condition in America. Though the winds ebb and waters recede, the effects of Hurricane Katrina reverberate beyond any gulf, far beyond that ravaged crescent of land Wynton Marsalis calls 'the soul of America.' Wrapped in these reflections is a wealth of work examining attendent issues of race, class, community, kinship, history, art, literature, war, love, and loss."

Beginning in 2001, LVNG was published by Flood Editions, a small non-profit press founded by Michael O’Leary and Devin Johnston. Available online and in communities across the country, LVNG’s primary purpose is “to provide a location for the ideas and aspirations of a collection of writers.” The journal’s unorthodox and informal distribution method – placing copies of LVNG in buses and trains, grocery stores and doctor’s offices – offered people an opportunity to read contemporary poetry without having to purchase a poetry magazine. Later joined by Peter O’Leary and Joel Felix, LVNG produced eleven issues, the last of which appeared in 2004.*
