Zine (z)

This zine spans two years of the author's life, age 21 to 23, and she explains it as follows: "This zine is a disorganized hodge-podge of my last years in college, and my first months of post-grad. Like my last issue, there are tons of references to coffee, Harry Potter, and not showering. But I bookended this round with two comics about my mom."

In this zine, H. Melt interrogates "straight" as a word and as an identity. The experimental format presents a series of dictionary definitions involving permutations of "straight" (e.g., straight forward, straight shooter, straighten, straight and narrow, etc.) and lets the reader ponder the connotations.

This comic takes the real life story of Joseph Beuys' performance art piece "I Like America and American Likes Me" and creates an alternate account of what really happened during his time with the coyote.

Zine of self-affirmations.

H. Melt curates this collection of essays (mostly originally online), documenting a critical queer, nonfiction literary voice that is strongly rooted in Chicago. Themes include the need to talk more openly about race, class, and privilege, the power of community support, and the experience of living in Chicago. Builds on the work of Chicago-based queer publications like Chicago IRL, In Our Words, and others. (Adapted from Melt's introduction to the collection.)

"The Read/Write Library and Big Draw Chicago are partnering for a one day program on October 6, 2013. Artists Sara Drake, Brook Golden, and Caroline Picard will talk about their style and process. After the discussion youth and artists will have the opportunity to draw together and create a short comic of their own."

This Zine has no information on the cover, and appears to be composed primarily of photocopies of copyrighted material. The first page contains an essay titled "Dumb Materiality."

Poems about humanity and the basic emotions we feel but cannot necessarily voice eloquently. Some topics include mood swings, disgrace, and sleep.

A zine detailing issues affecting the prison system

Fire With Fire As Told By Daniel Peg Leg is an account of the interpretation of the Chicago fire from the perspective of one of the people/creatures involved in the fire. It was written by a student of the Polaris Charter Academy.
