Chicago Reader

Zine is part of a project that "highlights and activates physical materials found in public libraries." This issue contains photos from the Chicago Reader's touring musician publicity photo collection, along with an interview with Bob Sloane, the librarian in charge of collection development for the Visual and Performing Arts department at Harold Washington Library Center.

Features on: Mass media's attacks on feminism; journalism ethics scandals; the Sony/Loews Cineplex Odeon lockout of union projectionists; an interview with professor of African-American Studies and Labor Party organizer Adolph Reed Jr.; new meat industry regulation expose by Gail Eisnitz; corporate sponsorship at the Museum of Science and Industry and its effects on exhibits on energy, AIDS, oil, food, and the environment. Published by students at the University of Chicago.

From the introduction: "A Jam Session consists of nonfiction pieces and short stories set in Chicago and completed within the last six years. May of the entries involve sports. That reflects my belief that one can learn insights about themselves and others through the heat of competition. I hope that these works will provide some inspiration, perspective, or perhaps a chuckle."
