2005
Volume:
1st ed
Abstract:
From the introduction: "A Jam Session consists of nonfiction pieces and short stories set in Chicago and completed within the last six years. May of the entries involve sports. That reflects my belief that one can learn insights about themselves and others through the heat of competition. I hope that these works will provide some inspiration, perspective, or perhaps a chuckle."

Love

Catalog Number:
Zine, Love
Date:
2004
Volume:
Vol. 3
Abstract:
This is the third volume of comics put out by Matt Fagan, also the author of Meniscus. Love follows the relationship between Pokie (a fun loving punk rocker) and his boyfriend of 8 years, Jack (the more realistic, down to earth musician). Experiencing the normal ups and downs of life, they help each other celebrate the good times, and fight through the rough ones. But of course ridiculous adventures always seem to just sort of happen in this world of theirs, and although there was some crazy stuff in the two previous issues, I think this most recent release brings about the strangest accounts. I mean, when your neighbors turn out to be aliens, there&rsquo;s weird shit going on. So, if you&rsquo;re looking for that feel-good zine of the month, try Love. It&rsquo;s got cool characters, peculiar sub-plots, and occasional man on man action. Half size, 44 pages. <br />

"The Skeleton News is a free monthly newspaper made by non-professional journalists, comic artists, and general revelers working in the grand tradition of of independent publishing. We reject the notion of objectivity in journalism, a delusional luxury that only the most powerful corporate media can afford, and instead delight in our subjective approach to the stuff of our lives and communities." The Archive: News from The Green Lantern

Catalog Number:
z.81.2
Date:
December 2006
Volume:
Vol. 2, No. 3
Abstract:
Words and art from current exhibitions at the Green Lantern Gallery, artist and curatorial statements, upcoming events, excerpts from upcoming works from the Green Lantern Press, guest pieces from other "culture workers" as well as text pieces based loosely around the theme of the current exhibition in collaboration with the artist. In this case, it's "Out of the Woods." "We ask, 'Is he out of the woods?' If they respond, '...not out of the woods yet,' it is a phrase that is often used as a nice way of saying 'not in the clear, but keep on hoping for the best.' This work is an attempt to explore 'the woods' as this state of danger, of nearness to death."
